Manual Lathe

Definition:

Purpose:
To reduce the diameter of a workpiece to a specified size
To produce straight, tapered, or contoured cylindrical surfaces
To prepare surfaces for subsequent operations such as threading or finishing
Techniques:
Straight Turning: Producing a uniform diameter along the length of the workpiece
Step Turning: Creating shoulders or different diameter sections on a single workpiece
Taper Turning: Producing a conical shape by gradually reducing the diameter
Contour Turning: Forming complex curved profiles on a cylindrical surface
Applications:
Turning is widely used to manufacture shafts, pins, bushings, rollers, and various cylindrical mechanical components in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and general machinery.
